My grandfather bought a Sinclair franchise in 1930 to give my father and uncle jobs after college, There were few jobs and lots of men needing jobs. Homes in small town America during the depression of the 1930’s provided a safe harbor for many young people who would have ventured out in better times. The 1932 Ford, 15 cents a gallon gas, Goodyear posters and the Sinclair sign are reminders of those years. The facial expressions and body language show a resignation to those hard realities.
